A doctor for your hotel room in Malta.

By video, within minutes, in English, Italian, French or Maltese.

€25 a video consultation — one fixed rate, any hour

8am to midnight Malta-registered Paceville, St Julian's

When you are ill in a hotel, the last thing you want is to go looking for a clinic. This is a consultation by video from the room: Dr Kevin Navarro Gera on your phone within minutes, for a fixed €25. It is not a visit to the room, and there is no call-out fee because nobody is called out.

For guests

  • Hotel wifi is usually enough for video. If it is not, the call carries on in voice alone.
  • Once the fee is paid, a prescription is dispensed by any licensed pharmacy in Malta or Gozo.
  • The receipt reaches your email and names the doctor and his registration, which is what a travel insurer asks for.

The €25 is paid at the counter of Potter's Pharmacy in Paceville: nothing is taken during the call. A prescription opens on your phone once the fee has been paid there, and any licensed pharmacy can then dispense it.

For reception and concierge desks

A guest can start a consultation from their own phone at pacevilledoctor.com, with nothing to install. The clinic is inside Potter's Pharmacy in Paceville, a short walk from the hotels around St George's Bay.

How a consultation works

  1. Open the app or the website and give your name and email once. There is no password to remember.
  2. Say in a line or two what is wrong. A photo often helps — a rash, a swelling, a test result.
  3. Call. Dr Kevin Navarro Gera answers within minutes when he is free; otherwise you wait in line and your phone rings at your turn.
  4. Anything he writes up afterwards reaches you in the app and by email, usually within minutes.
  5. The €25 is settled at Potter's Pharmacy when you collect. Nothing is taken from a card during the call.

What a consultation can cover

The same things a GP sees in a morning: a chest or urine infection, a rash, a migraine, food poisoning, an ear that will not clear, a repeat of something you already take.

Where the assessment supports it, the doctor writes a prescription, and any licensed Maltese pharmacy dispenses it. Where a consultation shows that someone is unfit for work or for an activity, he puts that in writing too. Both are clinical judgements reached during the consultation.

A screen is not enough for everything. A wound that needs stitching, a suspected fracture, chest pain, anything needing hands or equipment — the doctor says so during the call and sends you where you need to go.

Receipts and insurance

Every consultation that is paid for produces a receipt, and it arrives in the app and by email — not as a slip of paper to lose on the way out. It names you, the date, the doctor and his registration, and what was paid.

That is what an insurer asks for. If you are claiming on private or travel insurance, or through an employer's scheme, you open the receipt in the app and send it on.

Where a prescription is written, the receipt is part of the same document, with the doctor's fee and any medicines listed separately so a claim can be made against either.

Common questions

Does the doctor come to the hotel?

No. The consultation is by video. If you need to be examined, the doctor tells you, and you can be seen at the clinic in Paceville or are directed to the right service.

Which languages does the doctor speak?

English, Italian, Maltese and French. He also understands a little Spanish and some German.

Will my travel insurance accept it?

Policies differ, so check yours. The receipt names you, the date, the doctor, his Malta registration and the amount paid.

If this is an emergency, call 112 or go to Mater Dei Emergency. A video consultation is for things that can safely wait for a doctor to look at them on screen.
