The consultation

You, the doctor, and about ten minutes.

No waiting room, no appointment for next Tuesday. You say what is wrong, he sees you on screen, and whatever he writes up is on your phone before you have put it down.

What a consultation can cover

The same things a GP sees in a morning: a chest or urine infection, a rash, a migraine, food poisoning, an ear that will not clear, a repeat of something you already take.

Where the assessment supports it, the doctor writes a prescription, and any licensed Maltese pharmacy dispenses it. Where a consultation shows that someone is unfit for work or for an activity, he puts that in writing too. Both are clinical judgements reached during the consultation.

A screen is not enough for everything. A wound that needs stitching, a suspected fracture, chest pain, anything needing hands or equipment — the doctor says so during the call and sends you where you need to go.

Receipts and insurance

Every consultation that is paid for produces a receipt, and it arrives in the app and by email — not as a slip of paper to lose on the way out. It names you, the date, the doctor and his registration, and what was paid.

That is what an insurer asks for. If you are claiming on private or travel insurance, or through an employer's scheme, you open the receipt in the app and send it on.

Where a prescription is written, the receipt is part of the same document, with the doctor's fee and any medicines listed separately so a claim can be made against either.

Common questions

How quickly can I speak to a doctor?

Usually within minutes between 8am and midnight. If the doctor is with another patient you wait in line and your phone rings when it is your turn.

Is the doctor registered in Malta?

Dr Kevin Navarro Gera is registered with the Malta Medical Council (reg. 1985), and prescriptions he writes are dispensed by any licensed Maltese pharmacy.

What does it cost?

€25 for a video consultation, settled at Potter's Pharmacy when you collect. Nothing is taken from a card during the call, and medicines are charged separately by the pharmacy.

What if I need to be examined in person?

The doctor will say so during the call. You can then book at the clinic in Paceville, or he will send you where you need to go.

I am visiting Malta. Can I use this?

Yes, while you are in Malta. The consultation can be in English, Italian, Maltese or French, and any prescription is dispensed by Maltese pharmacies.

Can I claim the consultation on insurance?

Yes. The receipt appears in the app and by email, naming you, the date, the doctor and his registration, which is what an insurer asks for. Send it on from the app.

If this is an emergency, call 112 or go to Mater Dei Emergency. A video consultation is for things that can safely wait for a doctor to look at them on screen.
